Perry Bellegarde, AFN chief, reveals vision for real reconciliation

National Chief Perry Bellegarde of the Assembly of First Nations today is expected to reveal his vision for what is required to achieve real reconciliation,

Bellegarde will speak at a news conference today from Ottawa, starting at 1 p.m. ET. He's set to discuss the work of the Truth and Reconciliation Commission (TRC), and the expectations for the final report.

The commission was struck in 2009, with the goal of studying the legacy of Indian residential schools in Canada.

In the past six years, the commissioners interviewed more than 7,000 people across the country. The final report, which will be released Tuesday, will span six volumes and more than two million words.

The final TRC event kicked off Sunday, with thousands of people participating in a reconciliation walk through the nation's capital.
