Ruth Burger, charged in fatal London Costco crash, set for trial today

The trial begins today for Ruth Burger, who is accused of reversing her car until it crashed through the front doors of a London, Ont., Costco store, striking a pregnant mother and her two young daughters.

Danah McKinnon-Bozek, who was eight months pregnant, and her daughters were hit in the entranceway of the store on July 25, 2014. Six-year-old Addison Hall was killed and three-year-old Miah Bozek was critically injured in the crash.

McKinnon-Bozek underwent an emergency caesarean section. Her newborn daughter, Rhiannon, died in hospital a week later.

Two other people suffered minor injuries in the crash, along with the driver of the car.

Burger, 65, is charged with:

- Two counts of criminal negligence causing death.

- Two counts of criminal negligence causing bodily harm. 

The judge-only trial is taking place in London in southwestern Ontario.
