Caitlyn Jenner stunned the world with her gorgeous Vanity Fair cover on Monday, proving the Kardashians really can keep a secret.
Following Jenner's highly publicized interview with Diane Sawyer in April, speculation erupted as to when the Olympian formerly known as Bruce Jenner would be completing her transition.
And the speculation continued up until five days ago, when People Magazine announced that a fully transitioned Jenner would grace the July cover of Vanity Fair.
Mashable reports that Vanity Fair beefed up surveillance for the interview and photo shoot, hiring additional security on set and confiscating cell phones to prevent leaks. And photo security wasn't the only concern. Both the article and the photos were developed on a single computer that was never connected to the Internet. Mashable explains that the computer files were then transferred to thumb drives and deleted from the computer nightly. The final story was even hand-delivered to the printer.
And it seems all the extra security paid off. The official VF tweet of the cover photo went viral instantaneously, with over 233,500 retweets and 265,000 favourites since it appeared at noon on Monday.
Jenner herself even broke a new online record, CNN Money reports, surpassing President Barack Obama for 1 million twitter followers in just four hours. An overwhelmed but humbled Jenner tweeted out a note of thanks to all her supporters.
A spokesperson for VF told Mashable that although Jenner did not receive compensation for the exclusive, she and her family had been in talks with the magazine for months leading up to the shoot.
