Naheed Nenshi Faces Questions About New NDP Government During New York Visit

CALGARY - The mayor of Calgary says he has come back from a trade mission to New York optimistic about investments in his city and the province.

Speaking while touring the Environmental Expo at City Hall, Naheed Nenshi said there were a lot of questions about Alberta's new NDP government.

But he said the people he spoke to didn't seem particularly worried about Calgary or Alberta's economy.

Nenshi said companies remain bullish — not just about the oilsands — but also about natural gas and conventional oil.

But he did add the government needs to move quickly on a royalty review.

That's a promise Premier Rachel Notley made during the recent election campaign.

“They’re saying, 'Look, we can’t put in hundreds of millions and billions of dollars until we run our numbers, and we can’t run our numbers until we have the royalty rates to slide in,'" Nenshi said Wednesday.
