Ukraine referee chosen for opening Women's World Cup game between Canada and China

EDMONTON - Ukraine referee Kateryna Monzul will be in charge of Saturday's opening match of the Women's World Cup between Canada and China at Commonwealth Stadium.

The 33-year-old was a fourth official during the 2011 World Cup and has officiated at FIFA U-20 and U-17 World Cups as well as refereeing the 2014 UEFA Women's Champions League final between Tyreso FF and VfL Wolfsburg.

Ukraine's Natalia Rachynska and Croatia's Sanja Rodak will be the assistant referees Saturday with France's Stephanie Frappart the fourth official.

Ottawa's Carol Anne Chenard will referee Sunday's match in Ottawa between Germany and the Ivory Coast.
