Canadian dollar up slightly ahead of North American stock market open

TORONTO - The Canadian dollar was up about one-tenth of a U.S. cent before North American stock markets opened Friday.The loonie traded at 80.07 cents US, up 0.10 of a U.S. cent from Thursday's close.The Dow Jones industrial futures were down 54 points at 17,871.0, the Nasdaq futures fell 17.5 points to 4,479.0, and the S&P 500 futures declined 6.5 points to 2,092.4.On the commodity markets, the July crude contract was up 10 cents at US$58.10 a barrel and the August gold contract fell $7.70 to US$1,167.50 an ounce.The S&P/TSX composite index closed Thursday at 15,019.39, down 135.29 points.
