Canadian dollar up, Toronto Stock Exchange hovers near break-even Friday morning

TORONTO - The Canadian dollar was up about one-third of a U.S. cent and Toronto Stock Exchange was close to break-even Friday morningThe loonie traded at 80.28 cents US, up 0.31 of a U.S. cent from Thursday's close.The Toronto market's S&P/TSX composite index began the day slightly positive but was down 0.72 point at 15,018.67 later in the morning.The Dow Jones industrial average was down 6.98 points at 17,898.60, the Nasdaq index rose 3.75 points to 5,062.87, and the S&P 500 advanced 0.4 point to 2,096.24.On the commodity markets, the July crude contract was up 21 cents at US$58.21 a barrel and the August gold contract fell $5.90 to US$1,169.30 an ounce.
