MONTREAL - The Mercedes AMG team set the pace in the first practice session at the Canadian Grand Prix on Friday morning, with Lewis Hamilton posting the quickest lap of one minute 16.212 seconds and Nico Rosberg second at 1:16.627.The next car was more than a second behind on the 4,261-kilometre Circuit Gilles Villeneuve as Romain Grosjean brought his Lotus in at 1:17.721.As usual for the first practice, cars were slipping and sliding on a slick track, with Hamilton's 180 at the hairpin turn one of several minor mishaps.Rosberg was fined 1,000 Euros (C$1,386) for speeding in pit lane.Near the end, Toro Rossi's Carlos Sainz spun out and reported to his team: "Very poor driveability. A lot of holes."Nico Hulkenberg was fourth fastest for Force India at 1:17.871 with Ferrari's Sebastian Vettel fifth at 1:17.905 and Williams' Felipe Massa sixth at 1:17.985.Jenson Button got stuck in second gear in the opening moments of the 90-minute practice. The Briton eventually got his McLaren Honda going for 15th fastest at 1:18.786.A second session is set for Friday afternoon. Qualifying is on Saturday with the race on Sunday.
