TORONTO - The Canadian dollar was down a quarter of a U.S. cent shortly after North American stock markets opened Thursday.The loonie traded at 81.27 cents US, down 0.28 of a U.S. cent from Wednesday's close.The S&P/TSX composite was down 5.43 points at 14,883.61.The Dow Jones industrial average was up 93.25 points at 18,093.65, the Nasdaq index rose 19.34 points to 5,096.03, and the S&P 500 advanced 8.41 points to 2,113.61.On the commodity markets, the July crude contract was down 71 cents at US$60.72 a barrel and the August gold contract fell $7.30 to US$1,179.30 an ounce.
