Christopher Lee, Lord of the Rings actor, dead at 93

British actor Christopher Lee, perhaps best known for his roles as Count Dracula and the dark wizard Saruman in The Lord of the Rings trilogy, has died in a London hospital at the age of 93, a U.K. media reports said Thursday.

The legendary actor died on Sunday at the Chelsea and Westminster Hospital where he was being treated for heart and respiratory ailments, the Telegraph reported.

Lee became known for his portrayal of Dracula in a series of Hammer Horror films, the first released in 1958.

He also played the villain Francisco Scaramanga in the 1974 James Bond film The Man with the Golden Gun.
