Patients moved from ward at Newfoundland hospital after water line break

ST. JOHN'S, N.L. - Residents of the psychiatric ward at the Health Sciences Centre in St. John's, N.L. are being moved for 30 days after work on a water main resulted in serious water damage.

A worker was doing repairs to the hot water line Thursday when a valve broke.

As a result 19 patients will stay at a ward in the Waterford Hospital until repairs at the psychiatric ward are completed.

The Waterford Hospital ward has been vacant for six months, although vice-president of Eastern Health, Dr. Oscar Howell, says it has recently been used for meetings.

Last week, family members of patients in the psych ward raised concerns about a lack of hot water.
