Toronto man charged in cold-case sexual assault

A man who was arrested Wednesday for sexually assaulting a woman last April is connected to a sexual assault cold-case from nine years ago, police say.

They say that a woman who had entered an apartment building at Parliament Street and Front Street East on April 15 was grabbed from behind by a man. They say he tried to pull her out of the building but she was able to break free and call for help. The suspect ran off.

Police have connected the assault to an incident that happened in the Earnscliffe Road and Oakwood Avenue area on July 29, 2006.

They say a 23-year-old woman was walking in the area when she was grabbed from behind by a man who pushed her to the ground and sexually assaulted her.

Police say David Hodgson, 36, of Toronto, has been charged with two counts of sexual assault and failing to comply with recognizance.

He is scheduled to appear in court at Old City Hall on Thursday.
