Canadian dollar, North American stock markets down early Monday

TORONTO - The Canadian dollar was down nearly one-fifth of a U.S. cent as North American stock markets opened on a negative trend.The loonie traded at 81.08 cents US, down 0.15 of a U.S. cent from Friday's close.The S&P/TSX composite index fell 19.68 to 14,721.47, adding to a 89.73 point decline on FridayThe Dow Jones industrial average was down 148.31 points at 17,750.53, the Nasdaq index fell 52.61 points to 4,998.49, and the S&P 500 declined 16.33 points to 2,077.78.On the commodity markets, the July crude contract was down 82 cents at US$59.14 a barrel and the August gold contract rose $1.90 to US$1,181.10 an ounce.
