Canadian sprint sensation Andre De Grasse picks up NCAA athlete of year honours

NEW ORLEANS - Canadian sprint phenom Andre De Grasse has picked up another award. The 20-year-old from Markham, Ont., was named the NCAA Division 1 male track athlete of the year after blowing away the field in the 100 and 200 metres at the NCAA championships last weekend.De Grasse, a junior at USC, ran a blistering time of 9.87 seconds in the 100, then — less than 45 minutes later — followed it up with 19.58 in the 200.Both times were wind-aided, being slightly over the allowable 2.0 metres per second. Still, according to the NCAA, the times rank him among the ten fastest performers in world history in all conditions in both events. His 100 was the second fastest all-conditions collegiate time ever, and his 200 was the fastest.
