Manitoba Liberals want inquiry into missing kids in child welfare system

WINNIPEG - The Manitoba Liberal Party is calling for a public inquiry into the number of children who run away or go missing in the child welfare system.Liberal Leader Rana Bokhari pointed to police statistics that say there are thousands of missing children reported each year and many are in group homes or other facilities under control of Family Services.Bokhari says the government is supposed to be keeping troubled children safe, but is failing. There have been high-profile tragedies, such as the case of Tina Fontaine last year. The 15-year-old was killed after running away from a downtown hotel where she was being housed.Bokhari says the province should call an inquiry to find out why children go missing and what can be done to keep them safe.
