Man dead after truck plunges into Calgary retaining pond

A man is dead after a truck sunk in a Calgary retaining pond.

At about 2 a.m. Saturday, witnesses told firefighters that a person was in the white truck when it left the road and sunk in the pond near Stoney Trail and Glenmore Trail.

The aquatics rescue team managed to pull a man in his forties out of the truck, which was four metres below the surface, but he later died in hospital. No one else was involved in the incident.

According to Emergency Medical Services, the man was in the water for 40 minutes.

Police, who are investigating, closed the eastbound Glenmore Trail off ramp from Stoney Trail for the morning.
