FIFA Women's World Cup: downtown Vancouver a sea of red and white

A 12-year-old girl from Nanaimo who spent two years saving all her babysitting money and birthday gifts, was one of thousands of die hard soccer fans in downtown Vancouver Sunday.

Team Canada and Switzerland faced off in an elimination game in the FIFA Women's World Cup at B.C. Place Stadium.

Claire Krynowski said it's a dream come true to be at the match.

"Whenever I got birthday money, I just put it straight into the cup cause I knew World Cup was coming to Canada," said the 12-year-old diehard soccer fan.

Her father Bernie Krynowski said the lead up to the match brought his family closer together.

And they weren't alone. Here's a snapshot of the hours leading up to the big game.
