Toronto police said the gunfire erupted just before 10 p.m. near a plaza with a pizza restaurant and several other businesses at Morningside Avenue and Sewells Road.
Paramedics said an adult male and female suffered gunshot wounds, but did not say how severe their injuries are.
Toronto police have not released any information about potential suspects, but asked anyone with information to contact them.
