Canada may have beaten Switzerland in soccer 1-0 this past Sunday at the FIFA Women's World Cup, but that doesn't mean the opposing team doesn't have some serious love for Canadians.
In a post-game press conference, Switzerland's coach Martina Voss-Tecklenburg talked for a while (through a translator) about what the game meant and what the team could have done better. But just as she was about to leave the stage, she turned back for one final comment (you can see it in the video above at 16:18):
"I would really, from the bottom of my heart, like to thank the Canadian audience and the Canadians. We had a lot of fun in Vancouver and in Edmonton. And we found everyone was friendly, the welcome was fair and welcoming. Thank you very much, you are an amazing country. Thank you."
Coming from a country known for its own sense of fairness, peacekeeping and general good behaviour, we can't take this as anything but the highest compliment. And since we share the same national colours, we're going to go ahead and assume we're best friends now.
