P.E.I. Aims To Attract New Foster Parents By Increasing Compensation

CHARLOTTETOWN - The Prince Edward Island government says it is aiming to attract new foster parents by increasing its monthly foster care compensation by $200.

Minister of Family and Human Services Doug Currie says the number of foster parents on the Island is declining and it's hoped the increase will help with recruitment.

The government says there are less than 70 foster homes across the province, but about 225 children need care each year.

The province says foster homes receive monthly compensation based on the needs of the child and the level of care provided.
