PETERBOROUGH, Ont. - Former Conservative MP Dean Del Mastro has been sentenced to serve one month in jail after he was convicted of violating the Canada Elections Act during the 2008 federal election.The Peterborough, Ont., judge found that he had exceeded spending limits, failed to report a personal contribution of $21,000 to his campaign, and knowingly submitted a falsified document.Justice Lisa Cameron said he had lied and cheated and his conduct had been an affront to democracy.Del Mastro was also sentenced to 18 months probation.The one-month sentences for two of the offences are concurrent while a four-month sentence for the third offence is conditional.His lawyer has said he would ask for bail pending the outcome of an appeal if given a jail term.
