Snowdon-area break-in ends with injured suspect, cop

Provincial police have been called in to investigate after a Montreal police officer and a suspect were injured in a police intervention Friday night.

The incident happened on Ponsard Avenue in Montreal's Côte-des-Neiges neighbourhood, near the Snowdon Metro station.

Sûreté du Québec Sgt. Audrey-Anne Bilodeau said Montreal police were called to the house just before midnight for what appeared to be a break-and-enter.

Bilodeau said one of the two police officers responding to the scene shot and injured the 56-year-old suspect. The officer was injured during the intervention, possibly by a knife, she said.

Neither of their injuries are life-threatening, according to the SQ.

Bilodeau said the other officer was treated for shock.

As per standard protocol in Quebec, a second police force is always called in to investigate whenever someone is injured during a police operation.
