Petitot River Fire evacuation alert issued for B.C. oil and gas camp

The Wildboy gas plant northeast of Fort Nelson, B.C. may need to be evacuated due to the 3,500 hectare Petitot River wildfire burning nearby.

The fire was started by lightning on Wednesday, about 100 kilometres northeast of Fort Nelson.

An evacuation alert was issued last night by the Northern Rockies Regional Municipality for all residents, camps and worksites within the area.

The alert affects about 15 people, including those at Penn West Petroleum's Wildboy gas plant.
