Toronto police use DNA to link 2 Roding Park sex assaults

Toronto police have arrested a 70-year-old man in connection with two sex assaults in a west end park that took place last year.

Police said the two assaults took place in Roding Park, in the Keele Street and Wilson Avenue area in the city's north end.

In one case, a man allegedly grabbed a 14-year-old and threw her to the ground before assaulting her. In the other case, the accused chased and then attacked a woman, police said.

DNA evidence was used to link the accused man to both cases, police said.

Det. Lisa Ferris, of the sex crimes unit, provided a brief update in the ongoing investigation on Monday.

Toronto police spokesman said given the accused man's age there are concerns there may be more victims.

The accused is set to appear in court on July 2.
