Bomb squad called after grenade found in Jarvis Street building

Toronto police have closed a downtown intersection after a contractor found what appears to be a grenade behind a radiator.

Police said around 9:30 a.m. a contractor working in the building at 571 Jarvis Street found what looks like an old hand grenade. The bomb squad was immediately called in to investigate.

It's not clear if the weapon is live or even real.

As a precaution, police have evacuated the building and closed Jarvis Street from Wellesley to Charles and Isabella Street from Church to Huntley.
