Clifton Vassel charged with 1st-degree murder of Andrew Surage

Police have arrested 28-year-old Clifton Vassel in connection with the shooting death of a father of five in fall of 2014.

Andrew Surage, 47, was shot in the chest after a botched robbery outside an unlicensed after-hours club in the Weston Road and Rogers Road area.

Vassel was charged on Monday with the first-degree murder in connection with Surage's killing.

Police say Surage was shot after he came to the aid of a friend who was being robbed, which occurred in the parking lot of a plaza where the club operated.

Vassel was arrested in Toronto South Detention Centre. He appeared in court Tuesday morning.
