Boy, 13, dies in Canada Day soccer game in Drayton

Ontario Provincial Police and the Coroner's Office are investigating the death of a 13-year-old boy during an evening soccer game in Drayton, Ontario on Canada Day.

Police and emergency responders got a call about a boy in medical distress and went to the soccer pitch on Wellington Street in Drayton, which is located about 46 kilometres northwest of Kitchener, just before 8:00 p.m. Wednesday night.

According to the OPP, bystanders had started CPR on the boy.

He was taken to a local hospital, where he was later pronounced dead. Police provided few other details, other than to say an autopsy is scheduled for Thursday and the results are expected to be released Friday.
