Sandra Bullock Slams Media's 'Attack On Women' In 'Minions' Press Interview

Sandra Bullock Slams Media's 'Attack On Women'

Sandra Bullock is very selective with her press appearances and interview opportunities, so when she chooses to step out, she always makes it count.

Prior to the "Minions" premiere in London on June 11, the Oscar winner had not attended a public red carpet or event in over a year, and now she's sounding off about the media's "attack on women" in a new interview.

Speaking to E! News, Bullock says it's "open hunting season" for women in the press, "not because of who we are as people, it’s because of how we look or our age.”

The 50-year-old continued to hammer her point in the one-on-one, making particular note of how help is needed to balance this gendered treatment in the media because “little girls are having the hardest time with bullying and the Internet.”

“I’m shocked, and maybe I was just naïve, but I’m embarrassed by it," said Bullock. "My son is getting ready to grow up in this world and I’m trying to raise a good man who values and appreciates women, and here we have this attack on women in the media that I don’t see a stop happening.”

The "Gravity" actress, who was dubbed People Magazine's Most Beautiful Woman of 2015 back in April, also said she accepted the honour for the opportunity to salute and support the "amazing women" she finds beautiful.

“You’d be surprised at the love that you have in our crazy industry,” said Bullock. “The women have bonded together and have sort of become this tribe of trying to take care of each other and be there for each other in a way, because the minute you step out it’s an onslaught."

While Bullock was not specific as to the type of age-related bullying she witnesses in the news, she said she hopes “somebody with a very large hand and big voice" will "put a stop to it.”

Perhaps by voicing her concerns, Bullock is standing up to be the aforementioned "big voice."
