Bloor lighting, Salsa on St. Clair, Taste of Lawrence celebrations close roads

A weekend of festivals and special events will cause several road closures in various parts of the city this weekend.

Beginning Friday night, Bloor Street East will close from Parliament Street to Broadview Avenue to prepare for Saturday night's lighting of the Bloor Viaduct's "Luminous Veil."

The Pan Am Games torch relay will also be in the area on Saturday for the celebrations, so expect several smaller closures because of that.

City transportation officials said the event will also close access to the Don Valley Parkway in the area. Bloor is set to reopen at 5 a.m. on Sunday.

Taste of Lawrence, Scarborough's massive three-day food festival, will close Lawrence Avenue East from Birchmount to Warden all weekend.

Several bands will take to the main stage at Lawrence and Warden, while more than 130 food vendors will cater to the thousands of visitors.

And on St. Clair Avenue West, cars will be replaced with hundreds of dancers during the Salsa on St. Clair event.

The two-day free festival will close St. Clair from Winona Drive to Christie Street.
