#YouLookDisgusting Video: YouTuber Em Ford Fights Back Against Hateful Comments

Why this beauty blogger is standing up to her bullies.

Being a beauty and makeup blogger doesn't necessarily mean you're born with thick skin.

In the three months since YouTuber Em Ford began sharing her makeup-free acne-prone photos on social media, over 100,000 people have commented on her looks. With cruel feedback ranging from "WTF is wrong with her face?" to "I can't even look at her," Ford (A.K.A. My Pale Skin) is standing up to her online critics with a new viral video titled "YOU LOOK DISGUSTING."

Whatever happened to natural beauty?

Named after a verbatim comment she received, Ford outlines her experiences in the three-minute short, as the hurtful remarks frame her face. While the video continues, she covers her bare face with makeup to hide her blemishes, only to garner a mixed bag of over-the-top praise like "You look amazing" and negative reactions that include "She still looks like s***" and "Trust no f***ing bitch with makeup."

Soon after, the responses become more personal, and viewers share their own battles with beauty and body insecurities, writing "acne makes me feel worthless" and "41-years-old have had acne for 18 years" [sic] — with many seemingly seeking advice from Ford. One commenter takes it even further, and writes, "I wanted to kill myself."

Ford empowers her audience with the message that social media should not harm one's self-worth or self-esteem. Fighting back against societal expectations of beauty norms, the blogger proceeds to wipe off all her freshly-applied makeup, and leaves one final note for her viewers, writing, "You are beautiful. Don't let anyone tell you differently. Not even yourself."

With her video, Ford joins a series of notable women who have spoken out about these societal expectations. Her latest blog now joins the ranks of Amy Schumer's "Girl, You Don't Need Makeup" parody song, and Colbie Caillat's anti-Photoshop music video, "Try."
