TORONTO — A Canadian law firm says it's mergering with a U.K. counterpart to create Gowling WLG, which will focus on a wide range of global sectors from offices in major cities around the world.
Toronto-based Gowlings and London-based Wragge Lawrence Graham & Co say they have complementary strengths and internal cultures.
The new firm will be launched in January, with more than 1,400 legal professionals — about half from each founding firm.
The combined companies will have offices in major European centres such as Paris, Brussels and Moscow, in Beijing and other Asian cities, in Dubai and in Ottawa and other Canadian cities from Montreal to Vancouver.
Gowlings chief executive Scott Jolliffe says Gowling WLG expects to add other like-minded firms over the next few years.
