Right now, they're the two most recognizable symbols of Toronto.
And Reddit user RDSglobe highlighted a clever mash-up of the Pan Am Games with Toronto's viral #deadraccoonTO.
UPDATE: Steve Kearns is the brain behind the image, posting it to his tumblr on Friday.
"I've been making art creations using only my fingers on my iPhone for a few years now," Kearns told HuffPost in an e-mail. "But usually only shared it with friends until recently when I created a tumblr... My mind is exploding with how far this has reached."
A raccoon isn't too far off from the Pan Am Games official mascot: Pachi the porcupine. Although Pachi is alive and well, unlike the ill-fated raccoon who was found dead at Yonge and Church streets on Wednesday.
When a porcupine was unveiled two years ago as the Pan Am mascot, many Torontonians responded with a collective "huh?" As one presciently pointed out, a more fitting Toronto mascot would be "a raccoon stranded by a short-turned streetcar."
Indeed.
