Anna Wintour is the latest star to be featured in fashion photographer Mario Testino’s Towel Series.
The 65-year-old Vogue editor-in-chief posed for the black-and-white portrait (sans signature shades) wearing a white robe. Her arms are folded as she stares confidently into the camera with a subtle smile. Her hair is, of course, in her famous fringed bob and her makeup is minimal. According to Vogue, the photo was snapped at a hotel before the 2015 Met Gala in May.
This isn't the first time Testino, a longtime Vogue photographer, has captured Wintour's photo. According to Testino, he photographs Wintour every year for the Met Gala, and the editrix even summoned him to snap her passport photos.
In an interview with Fashionista in 2012, Wintour explained why she frequently entrusts the photographer with high-profile shoots, noting his ability to "make people look as beautiful and extraordinary as they possibly could."
"I think that for celebrities and people that can sometimes be insecure about the way they present themselves, Mario's hands are the most reassuring to be in," she said. "They know that they're safe, they know that they will look as beautiful and extraordinary as they possibly can, and so he's able to capture candid moments and they know that even if they let their guard down, they're going to look extraordinary."
Wintour's portrait is the 82nd in Testino's ongoing Instagram series, which he was inspired to create after noticing Kate Moss wearing a white robe with her hair twisted in a towel while on the set of a shoot. The series has featured Justin Bieber, Cody Simpson and Gigi Hadid, Kendall Jenner, Amanda Seyfried, Naomi Campbell, Selena Gomez and many other actors and models.
