Toronto man charged with child luring over social media

A 22-year-old man threatened to kidnap a young girl if she didn't provide nude pictures of herself, Toronto police allege following his arrest.

Sex crimes investigators say the man began communicating with the young girl — whose age was not released — on social media this April. Shortly after, police say, he demanded nude photos and threatened to kidnap the girl if she didn't comply.

On Monday, police executed a search warrant at a Scarborough home and arrested the man.

He faces charges of child luring and making child pornography.

He appeared in a Toronto court on Monday.

Toronto police say they are concerned there may be more victims, as they often do  in this type of case.

On Monday, police charged another man in his 20s with child luring in an unrelated case that also involved social media.

In that case, Det.-Const. Michele Bond warned parents to keep an eye on what their children are going online.

"Ignorance is not bliss," Bond said. "You must know for your child's protection."
