Canadian men defeat defending champs to win track cycling gold

Canada's men's team took the first track cycling gold medal of the 2015 Pan Am Games by defeating Venezuela in the team sprint on Thursday.

The Canadian trio of Hugo Barrette, Evan Carey and Joseph Veloce completed a comeback victory with a time of 44.241 seconds.

Venezuela's Hersony Canelon Vera, Cesar Marcano Sanchez and Angel Pulgar Araujo came up short, clocking in at 45.087.

Brazil rounded out the podium with the bronze. 

The Canadian women's sprint team will also vy for gold at 6:53 p.m. ET.
