In the past few years, there have been an increasing number of reports detailing how parents have left their kids in hot cars. So to show parents the dangers of this, New Jersey non-profit organization Kars4Kids challenged adults to sit in a hot car for ten minutes. If they succeeded, they would win $100.
The results of the social experiment, known as the Hot Kar Challenge, were eye-opening. According to Buzzfeed, not one of the adults was able to sit in the hot vehicle for more than a few minutes.
“That was one of the worst things I’ve ever gone through in my life,” one participant said. “It feels fine at first, but then once that door closed it almost immediately gets really hot and the airflow becomes almost oppressive.”
Another said: “I can only imagine how a child or baby would feel in there.”

In the past 25 years in the U.S., more than 650 children have died from heatstroke after being left in a hot car. According to the Hamilton Spectator, there are no equivalent statistics in Canada.
