Arrest made in homicide at Andy Livingstone Park

Vancouver police are commending volunteers with the city's Citizens' Crime Watch program for tips which have led to an arrest related to a homicide at Andy Livingstone Park.

"If it wasn't for the dedication and quick thinking of the volunteers in the VPD's Citizens' Crime Watch, we would not have been able to take this dangerous offender off the street so quickly," said VPD spokesperson, Sgt. Randy Fincham in a statement.

Police say around 10 p.m. PT on Friday witnesses called 911 after they discovered a deceased man in the park near Expo Boulevard and Carrall Street.

Minutes later, volunteers with the crime watch program, who were working in the area, spotted a suspicious man running from the park

They notified their police coordinator who detained the suspect.

The victim has been identified as a 44-year-old man who had recently arrived in Vancouver. His name is not being released until his family has been notified.

The suspect, a 26-year-old Vancouver man, remains in custody and has been charged with second degree murder.
