Steven Stamkos cheers for 'home' team at Jays game

Can't a person just enjoy watching a baseball game in peace?

Well, yes you can, unless you happen to be Steven Stamkos.

The Tampa Bay Lightning centre was minding his own business on Saturday when television cameras spotted him wearing a Rays hat a the Jays game in Toronto.

It took a quick Google search to get confirmation, but that is definitely a Rays hat, though probably the most subtle variation of the team's logo out there.

However, certain Toronto fans may interpret the gesture as far less subtle.

The 25-year-old has one year left on his deal with the Lightning and the hope is the Markham, Ont. native will bolt for the Leafs in free agency next summer.

Did Stamkos find himself in a tricky situation when choosing a lid to wear to the game? It had to be a tough call deciding if he should represent his actual home town or his adopted home town.

Wearing a Lightning hat might have been the natural compromise, but either way, this is a move that deserves over analysis.
