Canada's Caroline Veyre advances to lightweight final in Pan Am boxing

OSHAWA, Ont. - Canadian boxer Caroline Veyre advanced to the women's lightweight final with a split decision win over Mirquin Sena of the Dominican Republic on Tuesday at the Pan American Games.

Ringside judges scored the fight 38-38, 39-37, 40-36 for Veyre.

Veyre, who was born in France but now resides in Montreal, will face Argentina's Dayana Sanchez in the final on Saturday.

Earlier, Mandy Bujold earned a split decision over Colombia's Victoria Valencia in the semifinals of the women's flyweight tournament.

Ringside judges scored that fight 40-36, 38-38, 40-36 in favour of Bujold.

The native of Kitchener, Ont., will face American Marlen Esparza on Saturday.

Also Tuesday, Toronto's Arthur Biyarslanov beat Argentina's Lucas Giminez on points to advance to the semifinals of the men's light welterweight tournament.

He'll face Venezuela's Luis Arcon Diaz on Wednesday night.

In the last match of the night, Ariane Fortin of Saint-Nicolas, Que., settled for bronze after losing her middleweight semifinal bout to Yenebier Guillen Benitez of the Dominican Republic.
