Harinder Singh Cheema, one of Quebec's 10 most-wanted, charged in court

Harinder Singh Cheema, one of Quebec's most wanted alleged criminals who was on the run, is back in the province and was charged Thursday afternoon with second-degree murder.

His charge comes almost eight years after his 29-year-old wife was found dead in the couple's Saint-Laurent apartment on Christmas Day in 2007.

Police say Cheema was seen on Dec. 24, 2007 leaving the apartment on Deguire Street. He left their two children at a friend's place before disappearing.

An Interpol notice was issued, naming Cheema as one of Quebec's 10 most-wanted alleged criminals.

Investigators tracked him to California, and he was arrested in San Francisco on July 8.

Cheema, 36, was flown to Quebec and arrived Wednesday night.
