A thriving marijuana plant found growing in a traffic circle in Vancouver's Mount Pleasant neighbourhood is legal and harmless, said police.
Vancouver police Sgt. Randy Fincham said the plant was removed for analysis and found to be a male cannabis plant, which produces little to no THC, the chemical responsible for marijuana's psychological effects.
Fincham added it's unlikely police will find the person who planted the seeds. The weed was found nestled among other plants and flowers in the middle of a roundabout at West 19th Avenue and Ontario Street.
"I love it," Eric Lamond, who lives in the area, told CBC News. "It's beautiful. It's a beautiful plant. We should all be enjoying it right? It's nature."
Marijuana activist Dana Larsen told the Toronto Star that people plant pot in public areas because they want it to be welcomed like other vegetation.
“If you put it in your backyard, you can get arrested. If you put it in a public space, everyone can enjoy it,” he said.
Earlier this month, marijuana plants were discovered blooming in a public planter in Swift Current, Sask. The weed was removed and destroyed.
