Does Earth have a cousin? Well, NASA says it does and its name is Kepler 452B.
According to the space agency, the Kepler exoplanet explorer telescope discovered a planet and star which most closely resembles the Earth and Sun.
"This exciting result brings us one step closer to finding an Earth 2.0,” the release stated.
The planet was discovered in the Milky Way, the galaxy that contains our solar system. And its name comes from “Kepler” -- the space observatory launched by NASA in 2009 with the sole purpose of finding Earth-like planets orbiting other stars.
Since 2009, NASA has discovered hundreds of Earth-like planets, but Kepler 452B takes the cake for being extremely similar to the Blue Planet.
