Hair Tapestries Are The New Festival Hairstyle Of The Moment

Taking granny chic to a whole other level.

Say goodbye to flower crowns, because hair tapestries are the new festival 'do of the moment.

The style is exactly what the name sounds like: colourful, patterned thread weaved into your locks to resemble a tapestry. Think of them as a modern day version of those rainbow hair wraps you wore as a kid.

Hair tapestry is said to be the brainchild of hairstylist Alex Brownsell, who was inspired by traditional Andrean tapestry from Argentina. The 'do is now offered at Bleach London, the It-girl fave hair salon in Britain, and riffs off the rainbow and cool-girl texture trends that have emerged from festival street style.

Using the hair as a needlepoint canvas, thread is woven through a section of locks using a tapestry loom, creating colourful patterns. Thread colours can be switched to create patterns and different shapes by tapering the embroidery.

Since its conception last year, the trend has been picking up plenty of steam, with several ladies posting their #hairtapestry on Instagram.

And while we do appreciate and are super impressed by all the intricate work that goes into this style, we're not exactly sure if we would personally rock it. And don't even get us started on removal...

So what do you think? Would you try the hair tapestry, or not? Let us know in the comments below, and watch the video above to see how to DIY.
