Three people from British Columbia involved in head-on collision in Alberta

JASPER, Alta. — A 56-year-old man has sustained life-threatening injuries in a head-on collision on Highway 16 east of Jasper, Alta.

RCMP say a pickup truck headed east crossed the centre line and collided with a west-bound tractor pulling a fully loaded flat-deck trailer.

All involved are from British Columbia — the 71-year-old driver of the tractor-trailer unit, who was not injured, is from Abbotsford while the driver of the truck and his 50-year-old female passenger, who sustained minor injuries, are from Campbell River.

The truck driver was transferred to Edmonton hospital by air ambulance and was placed in an induced coma.

RCMP say alcohol or drugs are believed to be a factor in the crash and say charges could be laid.
