Of the many successes of the 2015 Pan Am Games, one that was universally-praised was the Panamania program, which brought nightly music to Pan Am venues across Toronto.
Well, good news sports fans: The Parapan Am Games have begun and that means Panamania is back! The music was flowing last night in Toronto for the opening ceremony, thanks to Francesco Yates, an up-and-coming Toronto singer that we guarantee you'll be seeing a lot more of.
Here's Francesco at the opening ceremony:
Owning the stage, singing “Better to Be Loved,” “Call” and “Honey, I’m Home.”
Yates is only 18 and dude can SING. Check out this older clip of him singing fellow Torontonian The Weeknd's "I Can't Feel My Face" with Shawn Mendes:
So yeah, Francesco pretty much brought the house down at York University stadium last night. Well done, we say!
A little later on, Montreal favourites Chromeo stormed Nathan Phillips Square to wrap up the first day of Panamania, and they did not disappoint either.
The electro-funk duo's most recent hit is 'Jealous,' prompting the obligatory pun:
The crowds were loving it:
And you know what else they loved? The fireworks. After seeing the CN Tower explode in a pyrotechnic blaze, Torontonians are hooked, and Panamania has nightly fireworks in store:
Big names like The Roots, Janelle Monae, Tanya Tagaq, and Jann Arden are expected to play for Panamania in the coming days. Don't put those dancing shoes away yet, Toronto.
