With thousands of Canadians logging on to dating sites to find love — in various forms — every day, it's no wonder that the writing of the dating profile itself is an art. But that doesn't mean people are particularly original with their content.

According to data from Match.com, there are certain trends to be found across the country when it comes to people's online profiles, and that might tell us as much about our regional differences as what we think others will be interested in.

While some of these make a ton of sense — quadding (or driving an ATV) as a hobby is something you might want to advertise, along with your love for the Jets — the popularity of Tim Horton's on the East coast as a basis for attraction does come as a bit of a surprise.

Meanwhile, Quebecers seem to get straight to the point about their relationship intentions, noting "réglé" in their profiles, meaning settled or stable.

We also asked the site to see if they could determine what people were saying in specific cities as well, and they found the following information for nine of Canada's major metropolises.

And basically what it came down to were sports teams and where people live:

  • Calgary — Flames
  • Edmonton — Oilers
  • Hamilton — blading
  • Kitchener/Cambridge/Waterloo — cottages
  • Montreal — Royal
  • Ottawa/Gatineau — canal
  • Toronto — Distillery
  • Vancouver — seawall
  • Winnipeg — Jets

So, while experts recommend being creative and being exciting in your profile, it looks like just being honest about your passions and your neighbourhood could just do the trick.

Plus, it's a great way to weed out potential dates who will eventually break your heart by rooting for the competition.
