On Saturday, Susan Sarandon’s daughter Eva Amurri Martino revealed she suffered a miscarriage while pregnant with her second child. The 30-year-old actress and her husband Kyle Martino are currently parents to a 1-year-old daughter named Marlowe.
“I am sharing in the hopes that we can be a light for people going through similar circumstances, and to remind myself and others that there is no shame in voicing our heartbreaks and allowing others to comfort us,” Amurri Martino wrote on her blog.
The actress went on to explain that she was nine weeks pregnant when she lost her baby. While on vacation in Hawaii last week, she began to experience some spotting, but her doctor reassured her that everything was fine. “We heard the heartbeat on multiple occasions, and watched our baby growing at a normal rate,” she said. “When we celebrated Marlowe’s birthday, we shared the news with our families and closest friends.
“At my next visit for a routine ultrasound, however, the baby's heart was no longer beating. Just like that, it was all over.”
She continued: “To anybody enduring similar heartache, I will tell you what I'm feeling and processing as a result of this loss. A lot of confusion, some anger, deep sadness, and also an immense amount of gratitude. I have realized in the past forty-eight hours how incredibly grateful I am for the magic that I have in my life.”
Here the “Undateable” star is referring to her family support system, which includes her mother Susan Sarandon, who was been an integral part of the birth of her first child.
After revealing the news of her miscarriage, the 30-year-old then took to Instagram to reiterate her thanks of support and to address other women who have suffered the same tragedy.
Martino Amurri isn’t the only celebrity to open up about her miscarriage. In the past, stars such as Beyoncé and Lily Allen have shared their own experiences. Most recently, Facebook founder Mark Zuckerberg spoke out about his wife’s miscarriages while making a baby announcement.
