Corduroy The Oldest Living Cat In The World Enters The Guinness World Book Of Records

If cats really had nine lives, they'd probably all wish at least one of those lives was as long as Corduroy's.

Corduroy — who was born on August 1, 1989 — was inducted into the Guinness World Book of Records last Thursday as the oldest cat in world at the age of 26 years and 13 days.

The furry feline, who was chosen from a litter by owner Ashley Reed when she was even, is described as a 'mellow, cool old cat' who is healthy and enjoying life, Today reports.

Domestic cats typically live up to 15 to 20 years, almost seven times longer than outdoor cats, reports The Nest. And just like humans, animals need mental and physical stimulation to help keep them living a long and healthy life.

Update: An earlier version of this article stated Corduroy was six years old when he was picked out by owner Ashley Reed, when in fact Ashley was seven at the time she chose Corduroy.
