Both Kirk Henning and his wife Valerie are professional dancers, but his moves at their recent wedding still stunned his bride.
The Richmond, Va.-based couple’s reception took place on the same stage they have shared during performances for the Richmond Ballet. But it was after the ceremony that was the big thrill, when he performed a nearly-eight-minute dance routine, according to WTVR.
The dance, which Henning performed with his groomsmen, was a mash-up of several songs, including Mark Ronson and Bruno Mars' “Uptown Funk," Britney Spears’ “You Drive Me Crazy," and Walk the Moon’s “Shut Up and Dance."
Valerie Tellman-Henning told the Richmond Times-Dispatch that while she was surprised by the dance, she hoped something like it would happen.
“I told him early on in the wedding planning process, ‘Well, I hope you’re working on your groomsmen dance for me,’” she said. “But he was so busy with touring and school, he said, ‘Valerie, it’s just not going to happen.’”
But, unbeknownst to her, he started planning the surprise four months beforehand. Only four of his eight groomsmen were professional dancers.
“I knew how important it was to her,” Henning told the Times-Dispatch. “So I figured, we’re going to do this or die trying.”
