The Best Beaches And Places To Swim In Alberta

Just because we're land-locked, doesn't mean there's nowhere to swim.

Unlike some of Canada's coastal provinces, Alberta may not be known for its epic swimming destinations, being a land-locked province and all.

But you'd be surprised at how many glassy mountain swimming holes and large prairie lakes there are across the province that offer the perfect place to cool off, suntan or try out some water sports.

It takes a while each year for swimming holes to warm up to an acceptable temperature, which makes late August and early September the best time in Alberta for a beach day.

And an extra bonus this year? The fall forecast is calling for plenty of hot days right into October.

Check out some of our top beach destinations from around the province and start planning your late-summer road trips.
